Instagram Stories: @Mr_Jason_Grant
The Aussie stylist and avid traveler will make you want to ditch the Northern Hemisphere for his infinitely hip scene.
If you speak to Jason Grant about something besides his massive styling career, like, perhaps, Star Wars, it will come as no surprise that he feels a calling to follow up his first two impressive design books—turned out in as many years—with a third blockbuster to complete the trilogy. "I’m a super fan of the originals. I love the nostalgia [of it]," he says, speaking of the occasional cameo by a miniature droid or stormtrooper amid the hip interiors and stunning seascapes on his wildly popular Instagram feed. The Australian design, ahem, force, has even bigger plans on the horizon than triggering your wanderlust and your sentimentality, however. Next month he'll debut, MJG by Mr. Jason Grant, his first ever line of home goods. While you wait to shop his style, why not ponder some #flatlay tips, bucket list trips, and maybe a little movie night inspiration from his must-follow feed?
The origin story
When I was growing up the job of a stylist wasn’t really something I knew about, but I was always creative [so I began] working for a homewares company and met these fantastic creatures called stylists (They’re really just like Jedis). I handled product loans for them, and realized then that I had to become one. So I first started assisting and then went out on my own and haven’t looked back. Now, I have been styling for magazines and brands for over ten years. It’s my passion. I worked hard to make this happen, and it’s been a great journey.
The next big thing
No one day is ever the same, whether I'm writing for my blog, styling for brands or magazines, or sourcing in stores and showrooms. I love the variety. I get to be creative every day. Working on my books has also been a favorite project, and completing a third—my very own trilogy—is very exciting. We are working hard to make this the best one yet, like a Hollywood blockbuster! My dream project, MJG by Mr Jason Grant, a home wares collection launching this February is my total dream project.
Sydney is a beautiful city with so many iconic moments. I’m lucky to live not far from Bondi Icebergs, [which is] probably the most famous ocean pool. It is one of my most favorite places to swim and it constantly features on my Instagram feed. It’s always changing depending on the weather, light, and time of day. I always try to capture it from a new angle, even if I just happen to be passing by for coffee. I’m thrilled that @cntraveler has listed Australia as the place to travel in 2016. Come visit! I’m a great tour guide.
I’m a super fan of the original [Star Wars] trilogy and the most recent one, too. I love nostalgia and this reminds me of my childhood. They are some of my favorite movies and I have a few collectables that make the odd appearance on my Instagram. I think it’s important to decorate with things that mean something and that you love. These items in my home always make me smile.
