Shop It Now: City Maps by Archie's Press

This post was written by guest contributor Jess Chamberlain, a Seattle-based writer whose love of good design is second only to her passion for environmentally friendly—and locavore—living. Look for her #MadeInAmerica posts all month on our blog.

I love maps. I also loved sketching with a pencil protractor in my 10th grade geometry class. Thus, it came as no surprise when I fell hard for these circular city maps, designed and letterpressed by Archie's Press in Portland, Oregon.

Maker Archie Archambault has created popular maps of Portland, Seattle, San Francisco, Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Boston (get yours here.) Archambault just launched a kickstarter campaign for his "city mapping tour" of Washington DC, Atlanta, New Orleans, and Austin, which he hopes to kick off this fall.

On his mapping tours Archambault takes to the streets to learn about the various neighborhoods, nooks and niches that give a city character, all the while talking to locals to find out unexpected details—did you know that the area where the "Nob Hill" and the "Tenderloin" neighborhoods meet in San Francisco is called the "TenderNob"? Now you do! Learn more about Archie's Press here.
