Wish We Were Here: Prince de Galles, Paris

Why hello there, Paris. Even the most jaded world traveler among us isn't immune to this view: tree-lined boulevards, mansard roofs, and, oh yes, the Eiffel Tower. This happens to be the view from a Parisian palace hotel that made its debut in 1928 and reopened earlier this year: the Prince de Galles

The hotel was designed by French architect André-Louis Arfvidson, who was inspired by the 1925 Paris Exposition that gave the art deco movement its name. The two-year, $100 million renovation stays true to the art deco spirit, with a lobby, rooms, and suites by one of the masters of contemporary luxe interiors: Pierre-Yves RochonThe lineup reads like a cast of European all-stars. A statement-making chandelier and a pair of "boxwood" spheres at the entrance by storied French iron-and-bronze design house Delislerestaurant and bar staff uniforms by Rochas; an art-deco inspired lobby rug by Parsua

But look at these bathrooms! Above, the hotel's Mosaic Suite, where the shower features an elaborate design in chocolate and gold.

The aptly named Suite d'Or features elaborate headboard panels (with more than 700 sheets of gold leaf!) by gilder Manuela Paul-Cavallier, as well as the bathroom beauties above. Peep those gorgeous fixtures against the black Saint-Laurent marble—an art deco signature.

Shimmering blue tile surrounds the bath in the Suite Saphir. The desk alcove, with its exquisite library, lets the books' gold-tooled spines take center stage.

The sprawling, two-story Appartement Parisien. And no, I'm not sick of all the marble and gold.

Chef Stéphanie Le Quellec (the winner of the French equivalent of Top Chef) presides over La Scène restaurant, with the talented young pastry chef Yann Couvreur. Architect Bruno Borrione revamped the restaurant, bar, and the amazing mosaic-covered patio, below, to interpret the art deco stylings in a modern, welcoming environment. If I were going to Paris for Fashion Week, this would be my palace hotel of choice.
