-->Because she uses it so well, we asked Weinrib if she has any rules or guidelines for employing color. “I don’t think that there is such a thing as too much color. I like to mix different hues of one color in a room,” she says, “because too much of the same hue can make things look flat.”
Weinrib is most known for her handmade carpets and ikat, suzani and block-print textiles, which, like a lot of her work, draw on her global travels. With this in mind, we were dying to learn what her travel essentials are. “I always take with me Emergen-C vitamin drink packets,” Weinrib says. “They are very good for jet lag. I also try to bring candy when I travel to countries with a lot of poverty as a treat to give the children in the streets.” We will definitely be keeping these thoughtful and practical ideas in mind for our next adventures!
Some art forms that inspire Weinrib include period films: “I am constantly surprised by things I see in these films, and it leads me to think about design in a different way,” she says. She also draws inspiration from “wonderful decorative arts museums that I try to visit as much as I can. These include the Neue Galerie in New York, The Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and the Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris. All three of these institutions have excellent bookstores.”
