Be Selective With Pattern
I'm a big fan of patterns, but I'm also a fan of knowing when and where to use them. If you really love a pattern (like this amazing Keith Haring wallpaper from Blik I used for a client), you should give it some breathing room so it has space to be itself. Combining it with too many distracting patterns can cause visual chaos and distract the eye from the architecture of the main pattern.
