Glossier's Next Take Over Is At A Café – With Fried Chicken
Because beauty and food are better together.
Updated on March 14, 2018.
In case you haven't heard, there's a beauty brand taking over the planet. It first struck with a shimmering, dewy halo (haloscope), then with clouds of rose and rouge (cloudpaint), and finally, with glittering pastel shadows (lidstar). Glossier, a cult-favorite with good reason, is giving the people what they want via consistent product launches and monochromatic color schemes. The New York-based, "people-powered beauty ecosystem," even found ways to reach and interact with customers near and far to keep the party going. So, where's the next landing for the glowing mothership? The Golden City, San Francisco.
On March 14, Glossier opened doors with Mission's very own Rhea's Café. A locally beloved spot, Rhea's transformed into a temporary retail concept shop with a visual redesign, including a new color palette and furniture upgrades. Of course, it wouldn't be right to celebrate the new without honoring the original, which is why the reopening also highlights the restaurant's existing design details, and features a menu of Rhea Café's greatest plates (yep, the Buttermilk Fried Chicken Sandwich is there, too).
If you think you've already seen Glossier's IRL presence, think again. The brand's new digs offer a design element that veers from its previous experiences and openings. Completely refurbished, Glossier's version of Rhea's is painted powder pink and lavender on the outside, paying subtle homage to traditional San Francisco architecture. The restaurant's retro bar reflects an old-fashioned diner, repurposed with vanity stations for make-up application and, you guessed it, @instagram. In sum, the beauty empire created an unexpected experience that embraces and blends in effortlessly with its surroundings, much like the products do on the skin.
Oh, and about the products – all Glossier items are available to test and shop at Rhea's from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day. Head to 2200 Bryant Street on March 14 to get the first look at the latest Glossier touch down — this is a landing you won't want to miss.
