Hands-On-Studio Opens in Williamsburg

Hands-On-Studio is the latest project from artist and designer Shabd Simon-Alexander, a creative space dedicated to classes, workshops, and even open studio "play days." Featuring the talents of a rotating list of local instructors, courses will cover everything from textile and sculptural techniques to natural skin care and cooking, all united by a common ethos and passion for "quality, material, precision, craft and beauty." "[Hands-On-Studio] is a place for both student and instructor to come together, get their hands dirty, develop new skills and techniques, and expand," says Simon-Alexander.

This Saturday, September 13, Fort Makers' own Noah Spencer invites aspiring Brooklyn makers to learn about kinetic movement with his Kinetic Mobile Workshop ($140). Students will be instructed in every facet of mobile production and given a little historical background to boot. All materials are included and snacks are provided—BYOB. Spencer is an artist and designer whose work ranges from tabletop objects to large-scale installations. (Not to mention the avant-garde chair seen in Nana Spears and Daniel de la Nuez's living room from the memorably named "Leave It To Beaver" collection.)
