Spring Cleaning Task #23: Rinse Trash Cans
A trash bag can’t always protect a bin from getting exposure to bacteria. Make sure to scrub and rinse out your cans at least once a month. Once clean, dry your trash cans thoroughly, using a fresh microfiber cloth or paper towels. Don’t put a new bag in until the bin is totally dry, inside and out.

If you're committed to regular cleaning, a sprinkling of baking soda in the bottom of the can will help keep odors at bay, but it can clump up and make a bigger mess if you go longer than two weeks between rinses.
