Spring Cleaning Task #8: Check Fire Alarms
Fire-safety alerts may be on high with stoves and fireplaces roaring during chillier winter months, but spring is as good a time as any to check your alarms are all in working condition. Dust the outside of smoke and carbon monoxide detectors with a microfiber cloth and remove old batteries.

Before replacing them, make sure the alarm’s air vent is also clean (but never use any kind of liquid cleaner for these). Test the unit once it’s back up on your wall to make sure it’s functioning properly again. To be extra vigilant, keep a small fire extinguisher on hand near vulnerable areas like the kitchen.
