6 Must-Follow Makers Blowing Up on Instagram
From an L.A. ceramist collab-ing with Kelly Wearstler to Lena Dunham's favorite Brooklyn-based potter.
One of the coolest things about Instagram is getting a peek into the daily lives and inspirations of all the design people we're big fans of. Lord knows we keep tabs on our standbys, but there's also nothing quite like falling in love with a new favorite follow—getting a backstage pass to their studio, putting a voice to their work and, TBH, stalking their pets. All that is why we make a habit of rounding up our standouts, from wedding people to sketch artists to floral designers. And right now we can't get enough of these six clay-based makers, from an L.A. ceramist collab-ing with Kelly Wearstler to Lena Dunham's favorite Brooklyn-based potter.
Brett Freund (@BFREUNDLY)
Brett Freund's transfixing vessels are where crystalline structure meets Transformers with a side of Frank Gehry. In his feed, watercolor-hued works sit side by side with punk-rock record recommendations and two very presumptuous and charming cats.
Ayumi Horie (@AYUMIHORIE)
Ayumi's feed makes us want to quit the city, move to Maine, and only think about making sweet, illustrated ceramics and lobster rolls. Don't click unless you're ready to be very invested in the life and times of Clover, the Boston Terrier.
Ben Medansky (@BENMEDANSKY)
His just-launched Pyrite collection, a collab with Kelly Wearstler, has garnered this L.A.-based talent some well-deserved attention, but we've been keeping tabs on his often delightfully-off-color work for quite a while.
Isaac Nichols (@GROUPPARTNER)
We first spotted Isaac's cheeky (booby?) creations on the feed of one @LenaDunham and quickly leapt into a rabbit hole of his inspiring adventures—from creating a DIY in-studio trailer home to conjuring a rooftop cabin.
Bari Ziperstein (@BZIPPY)
There is so much to love in this West Coast maker's feed: totally refreshing mixed media vessels, cool retro inspiration images, and, our personal favorite, babies x fine art—namely Bari's chubby-cheeked toddler, Lawrence, who attends more gallery shows than most grown-ups.
Cody Hoyt (@CODYHOYT)
Hoyt's geometric creations are our office-wide vessel obsession. Take as evidence this prefab home, styled by Lonny alum @s_storms, and featuring a familiar statement taking pride of place in the living room.
