Macrame Wall Hangings are Having a Moment

It's time to get lost in Amalia Rompoulias's hippy-chic life

There's nothing quite like finding a great new Instagram account to follow—unless of course that 'grammer also has the ability to totally change your mind about a previously loathed design trend.

The Lonny office is deeply divided on the woven wall-hanging movement. Lonny contributor Justina Blakeney heralded the renaissance and Cat Dash sealed the deal with her mixed-media gallery wall, but many, myself admittedly included, remained unconvinced by the kitschy 1970s throwback.

That is until I stumbled upon the Instagram feed of Amalia Rompoulias (@amaromp), whose ethereal macrame curtains turned my wall hanging theory on its head. The piece above was created for a wedding—engaged people get on this!—but Rompoulias also creates custom designs for Free People, as evidenced by the chandelier below. Not just a crafter, the "propatier, and rhubarb and banjo lover" is also one third of the dream team behind our most recent Instagram Stories subject, @rentpatina.
