The Latest Anthropologie Collab: Rugs Fit for Royalty
UK designer Luke Irwin brings his cult textiles to the States.
The older I get, the more I realize that the minor status symbols I used to lust after in my youth—various It Bags, Sex and the City–worthy stilettos, and the like—are absolutely nothing next to the passion I now feel for a good rug. Talk about luxury with meaning: when you think about the places it's been, the skilled hands that have created it, and the symbolism and stories behind the design, a rug becomes so much more than a mere possession and represents a deeper connection to the world. Also? They're just plain gorgeous.
Dublin-born rug designer Luke Irwin has some pretty high-profile clientele that range from British aristos to rock 'n' roll royalty. (The Rolling Stones, the House of Windsor—perhaps you've heard of them?) But now, thanks to his recently debuted collaboration with stateside brand Anthropologie, my dream of owning one of his ethereal creations is just a bit closer to reality.
Get a load of these gorgeous rugs. The hand-knotted designs, with their Indo-Tibetan-style abstract or Swedish-inspired geometric patterns, are subtle standouts that instantly ground any room. The best part? They'd look right at home in an East Village walk-up or an English manor.
