If you haven't yet heard of Semihandmade, you may want to take a closer look at some of the most photographed kitchens on Instagram. The cutting-edge cabinetry company was established with a goal of using simple IKEA cabinets as a foundation for craftsmanship at an accessible price. In 2011, founder John McDonald set out to make that happen — and subsequently brought us our favorite cabinetry on the market.

As the world's largest furniture retailer with over 300 stores in over forty countries, IKEA does comes with a few limitations when it comes to customization and style. That's where McDonald's "hacking," or quick tricks to improve the existing product, comes into play. “It’s a cost savings for many because it allows for a drastic change without the cost of a full gut remodel," McDonald adds. He's since outfitted homes of Coco Rocha, Aimee Song, Sarah Samuel, Whitney Port, Karlie Kloss, and many more. Read ahead to see a few Semihandmade highlights.
